Philanthropy is more than an ATAR score
Joe and his colleagues at Melbourne High do well in academic studies and sport. Part of the program at Melbourne High focusses on community service and engagement. I was surprised and pleased when Joe, still only 15, presented a speech about what he had been doing with the leadership team in respect to working with the Lord Mayor’s Charity Fund. Rather than me write about it, you can read his report in Melbourne High’s OURS Magazine. I am so pleased that he is not only doing well in sport and academic studies, but his involvement in working with groups who help those in more challenging situations is providing a wonderful experience.
Next year, when Joe enters year 11 he will be heading to Nepal to both experience and assist in a foreign environment. Another once in a lifetime opportunity that will never be linked to an ATAR score, but will provide an experience that will stay with him forever.
