Essington Cannons – first games of the 2015 DBA Basketball Season
First game for the Div 1 U18 boys Essington vs Eagles. Great start for 2015 and the boys acquitted themselves well.

Here are the full videos for the match held Monday night 7pm at DBA Stadium Darwin, NT on Feb 2, 2015. Coach Ralph was pleased with the efforts as were parents. Great turnout with ten players participating. Excellent to see Freddy joining Essington’s school team. It was noted that the large number of Kobe IX shoes purchased by the boys from the Hoop Station in KL Malaysia made a statement as well.
A friend who came to see her daughter play in the following match didn’t focus on our match but commented that our noisy support sounded as if we were playing a grand final… fun, passion and committment.
I do have to comment that 9pm on a school night for the girls to play basketball is a bit beyond the pale and our girls are, like the boys striving for academic as well as sporting excellence. A 9pm start is not what I would call a good balance.
That said, I understand that will not happen again on a school night.
Packs were handed out last night to parents and there is a signup barbeque this weekend (Sunday 8 February at the Essington School 5:30 – 7:30). I note there is a shooting competition with prizes. Sure to be a fun afternoon event. It is clear that there is a lot of effort being put into the administration and support for the team and I hope to being providing videoing assistance and sharing the communication messages.
The video playlists in this blog are not exposed on YouTube, but only through this blog which has a fairly limited readership. Rather than a highlights reel, this is the full game which can be used by Coach Ralph and Coach Delean for review purposes with players. Apologies if my voice comes over on the video. You can subscribe to the videos on YouTube, but the full game recordings will remain “unlisted” ie just available through this blog (no sign in required though).
Anyway – great start to 2015 and lovely to see all the faces from last year gathering again for another year of sport, camraderie and fun!
