Essington do very well in the (Basketball NT) BNT Challenge – DBA Basketball Essington Cannons
During the Easter break in Darwin there was a basketball competition called the basketball Northern Territory challenge. The competition went from Friday to Sunday, 5 April 2015. The Essington School had a number of teams competing and with Joe playing in the under 19 men’s team I went along to film some of the games.
Normally I film using my Kodak camera which I have to manually pan from one end to the other as the boys run up and down the court. This time I decided to use my gopro hero mounted high enough so I got both baskets and the entire court in shot. This worked way better than I expected and you can see the results and footage below. It also meant that I was able to enjoy the games.
On the first day of the event – Friday, the team that Essington were going to play against forfeited and then on the Saturday Essington had four games winning the first two and losing the second two. I was able to film the second two games with the first one being against the Papua New Guinea team who were very skilful, very tall and played a gentleman’s game of basketball. As a matter of fact the entire competition was umpired well, played well and supported well.
On the final morning of the competition Essington under 19 boys played Miwatj, an indigenous team with some incredible jumping and twirling skills. All of the games were entertaining and I’m glad the team took part and thanks goes to all players and also to coach Gary for working with the team before and during the competition.
- PARBA v Essington – forfeit
- Alice Springs v Essington – win
- DBA v Essington – win
- Essington v PNG – loss
- Essington v Lightning – loss
- Essington v Miwatj – win
With one forfeit, three victories and two losses, this meant that the Essington boys under 19 team secured third place in the competition. That was a great effort from the boys and demonstrated how well they’re working together as a team.
I only managed to record the last three games of the Essington boys under 19 matches.
